Today's argument assignment.
What I want you to work on for today, is to take your persuasion maps and create a very basic persuasive argument with this. I am not expecting separate paragraphs with this the full 1 introduction paragraph, 3 body paragraphs, and 1 conclusion paragraph. If it is just in 1 long paragraph, that will be fine. You will want to do this on your netbooks so that when we come back to this later to add to it, you can easily edit everything. If you don't have your netbooks, you'll need to borrow one from the back or write this out on paper and either rewrite it each time or transfer it to a computer document.
Part 1:
First you need to create your introduction. This is just a quick statement of what you're arguing about and what your basic main reasons are. For this, you can simply say something like this: "I think that X should/should not happen because main reason 1, main reason 2, and main reason 3.
Part 2:
Next after you have listed each of your main reasons, you need to start the next sentence by talking about your first main reason. An example of this might be "we should be allowed to do X because main reason 1".
After this sentence, you need to talk about your facts or examples that you have come up with. These need to be complete sentences and need to support your main reason. So, for example, you cannot just say "we should not be required to wear school uniforms because they are uncomfortable." You need to explain why them being uncomfortable would be bad for you. You need to say something more like "we should not be required to wear school uniforms because they are uncomfortable, and if we are uncomfortable, it will make it so we can't focus in class or study very well." this is a good reason why you shouldn't have to wear uncomfortable clothes and it will explain how, if you have to wear them, it will affect you and make things worse.
You need to do this for each of your facts or examples. Remember, you need at least two facts or examples for each of your main reasons and they need to work together to support that main reason (they can't be really different). Parts 2, 3, & 4 should be 3-4 sentences each.
Parts 3 & 4:
Parts 3 and 4 are the same as part two. Part 3 is your second main reason and part 4 is your third main reason. If you're confused about something, just do the same thign you did in part 2.
Part 5:
For part 5, you need to write a brief conclusion. The conclusion is just where you go back over everything you've already said really quickly. This should only be one to two sentences. What you need to do here is to just say something like "We should not have to wear school uniforms. If we have to wear uncomfortable clothes, we cannot focus well; if we have to main reason 2, blah blah blah will happen, and that's a bad thing; and because of main reason 3, blah blah blah will also happen."
